So,
if you're up to it, Daniel's your guy -- fly fishing and spinning --
Daniel is skilled at both -- and he works HARD! (You won't catch
Daniel leaving the dock at 8 or 9, his clients are usually long gone by
6 a.m.
As
the younger brother of Pow, Wyatt and Julian Cabral, some of Placencia's
most well-known fishing guides, Daniel could hardly help but pursue a
guiding career. And, like his brothers and sisters (all 13 of
them), he grew up on Whipray Caye off the Placencia coast where fishing
was literally a way of life.
Daniel
has been guiding now for over 7 years and he loves to "get out with the
guys at the cayes and do some hard fishing."
Here's what Joe Cummings had to say after
fishing with Daniel:
"I make my living hiring and evaluating guides
in my own outfitting business. So I make sure I use great guides
when I travel all the way from Montana to fish in the salt, and Daniel
is one of the best I book with.
"When I choose guides for myself, I consider
the two most important characteristics in a guide -- boat-ability and
work ethic. When I'm after permit, the only thing I should have to
concentrate on is the shot and the fish. Daniel slides the boat
into the perfect slot so often that it becomes a given that your shot is
the best for each particular fish.
"To be a great permit guide, and a quality
guide in general, you have to be willing to get up early and pole for
hours just looking.
"The last fish Daniel and I took together we
poled and poled without even a sniff of permit. But, Daniel stuck
with it and late in the day, a fat 22-pound permit came to the boat.
Daniel's knowledge and work ethic got our boat that fish, and that's why
I fish with Daniel.
"I come to Belize to fish with guides like
Daniel because his professionalism and ability is what turns a trip from
good to great."
